My High School Seatmate's Wedding
Come wedding day, the heavens showered a downpour of blessings in the morning and soon the skies cleared with just a gush of soft wind and drizzle as the couple exchanged their I do’s in the afternoon. Iya was a lovely bride in her simple yet elegant gown and Franz looked dashing in his tux. The ceremony was very intimate and touching. The pastor even asked the couple to give their personal vows to each other. Iya, being a comic that she was told the pastor that that was not part of the script. Their love for each other was so evident in the way they professed their love and commitment in front of God and the people dear to them.
All throughout the ceremony, Myles and I found ourselves beaming with joy as we watched our former high school seatmate at the happiest moment of her life. Not too long ago, we were just a bunch of girls in pigtails sharing notes, test papers (hehe), stories about our crushes, kikay and other kababawan stuff. The three of us were strategically seated beside each other because of our surnames –Saret, Solis and Sumera. I have so many fond memories of these girls, especially Iya being the closest person in proximity during my high school years. I remember back in the day when we would diss our teachers, talk about our crushes and our favorite TV shows (California Dreams wink wink) in between subjects, how we would go to their place after school to practice for a folk dance competition which eventually won us the grand prize, when I spent the evening at their place unplanned to finish a paper which led us to go to the nearby sari-sari store at 1 in the morning to buy myself a toothbrush (hehe). I could go on and on listing a bunch of other fun memories with this girl but what I’m most happy to say is that despite the fact that we hardly see each other during and after college, the bond between us still remains; she is still the same Anding Solis, well now it’s Manzano that I know.
Congratulations, Iya and Franz! May you have a happy and blissful life together!
